Qinglian Performing Artistic Center, Jiangyou
Located in Jiangyou Qinglian Poetry International Resort Town of Sichuan Province, the project takes “mountains & water & stones” as its architectural design concept (derived from a verse by Li Bai, great poet from the Tang Dynasty, “Those days when we met were so much fun, and we toured around all day long.”). It adopts earth-covered construction to incorporate the ambient environment of the base (the Qianjiang River and Manpodu) into the design scope, and to blend the architecture into the environment as much as possible. Between its antechamber and main lobby a flowing courtyard is introduced to create a “Zen-style” space for the antechamber and ensure the openness of the architecture. The water flow-like antechamber and stone-shaped main lobby jointly constitute the design concept of “mountains & water & stones”, echoing with the verse “Those days when we met were so much fun, and we toured around all day long.”
Through earth-covered construction, the antechamber and auxiliary space of the architecture are fully concealed under the slope. This design on the one hand perfectly blends the architecture into the environment and reduces its influence on the ambient environment, and on the other hand creates a flowing internal courtyard. The major structure of the architecture adopts the most concise cuboid which, like a giant stone, endows architectural functions with maximum flexibility. The architecture façade introduces ecological techniques to provide vertical greening for walls, constitute an abstract image of mountains and stones, weaken the architectural massing and hide the architecture into the environment.
